Owl City - "Fireflies" official music video

Fireflies
Owl City
Owl City consists of one talented Minnesotan, Adam Young. Young first began his music career as a means to treat his insomnia. When his Myspace posts grew in popularity, he was given the opportunity to sell music via iTunes. Maybe I'm Dreaming, his first EP, peaked at #13 on the Billboard Electronic Charts and launched him into the mainstream music industry. Although since then his single Fireflies has become a quadruple-platinum, Young continues to play rather than sleep, and he prefers to stay in the background due to a level of shyness ("Sudden notoriety has done nothing to change the shy person I was born as, and though I don't see that trait even changing, I am totally OK with it." -Young).

"I am fallen, flawed and imperfect. Yet drenched in the grace and mercy that is found in Jesus Christ, there is strength."

BarlowGirl - "Beautiful Ending" official music video

Beautiful Ending
BarlowGirl
BarlowGirl is a Contemporary Christian band, consisting of the three sisters. Using three-part harmony, the Barlow girls blend their voices with the rock genre, resulting in a wide variety of sound.
Alyssa (lead vocals, bass, keyboard), Rebecca (background vocals, guitar), and Lauren Barlow (co-lead vocals, drums) were born into a family interested in music. Their father created youth Praise CD's for their church in Illinois. Oftentimes, he would bring his three home schooled daughters along with him.
Their first gig was for a GMA "Music for the Rockies" seminar. The sisters were unaware that the seminar was for recording studio for unsigned artists, and they were being judged. Their performance dove them into the music industry as interest in them began to grow. By October of the next year, they were already signed for a label.
From BarlowGirl's first album, the song "Never Alone" remained #1 on the charts for longer than any other song in 2004. Since then, they have released five additional albums and won over ten Contemporary artist awards. All the while, they have upheld their image and their beliefs in faith, purity, and waiting for the "one perfect man already chosen for us".

Duran Duran - "New Moon on Monday" official music video

New Moon on Monday
Duran Duran
Several versions of this video exist. The longest is a 17-minute "movie version" which includes an extended introduction before the song starts (including a scene of dialogue between [lead singer] Simon Le Bon and the story's female lead, played by Particia Barzyk, winner of the Miss France title in 1980; a brief snippet of "Union of the Snake" [another of the band's singles] is also heard on a radio), and is set to an extended remix of the song. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Moon_on_Monday)

Duran Duran was formed by John Taylor and Nick Rhodes in 1978. They played at nightclubs in Birmingham. One in particular, called Barbarella's, inspired the band to name themselves after the villain in the sci-fi film with the same name, "Dr. Durand Durand".

Simple Minds - "Don't Forget About Me" official music video

Don't Forget About Me
Simple Minds
Simple Minds was an '80's rock band originally from Scotland and are ortherwise classified in the "One Hit Wonder" cattegory. "Don't Forget About Me" became popular when included in the American Teen drama, The Breakfast Club. After Billy Idol turned down the oppurtunity to perform the song, writers Keith Forsay and Steve Schiff searched for a willing participant. Initially, Simple Minds dismissed the song as well. It seemed "Don't Forget About Me" was the hot-potatoe of the music industry. Eventually, they did sign on to the project, and the track went on to become not only their most famous song, but also considered a defining song of the 1980's.

(The USA TV show Psych made a promo perody to remind its fans not to "forget about them". click here)

Travis - "Closer" official music video

Closer
Travis

"Closer" was the first single for the album "The Boy With No Name".  The album contrasted the dark aura of the previously released album, which reflected the difficult times the bandmembers had gone through. "Closer" released in April 2007 and peaked at number 10 in the charts.

Travis is a post-Britpop band from Scotland. At present, Fran Healy, Dougie Payne, Andy Dunlop, and Neil Primrose comprise the four irreplacable parts of the band. Though world renowned, the were not always so popular. In fact, during the first three years of their career was extremely difficult.
Originally formed by two brothers, Chris and Geoff Martyn, Andy Dunlop joined the duo as a guitarist nd Neil Primrose on drums soon after. They titled their band "Glass Onion", but when lead-vocalist Catherine Maxwell, they were forced to audition for a new singer. The person destined for the job was drawn into the group when drummed Neil Primrose poured him a pint. Although a simple inexperienced art student, Fran Healy joined the band, now called "Travis" after the character in the film Paris, Texas.

Debut album "Good Feeling" sold merely 40,000 copies, regardless of the positive reviews that appeared along with Healy. It wasn't until The Man Who (1999) that Travis charted number 1 on the UK album charts. Upon first release, The Man Who placed 7 with little radio play of its singles, but quickly slipped down. Critics complained that the melodic sound of the album was tainted by its more rocky preceder. New Music Express magazine stated that "Travis will be best when they stop trying to make sad, classic records". Things for the band were looking bleak. When their album had sunk to No. 19, it finally stopped. Word of mouth began to increase popularity of the single "Why Does It Always Rain on Me?" consequently raising Travis back up in the charts. Then, when Travis took the stage to perform the song at the 1999 Glastonbury festival in England ,what happened was nothing short of a miracle for the band. As Fran Healy sang the opening line, it began to rain unexpectedly. Newspapers and telivision, as well as mouting radio popularity and word of mouth, jumped their popularity to No. 1 on the British charts. In 2000, Travis also was named Best Band at BRIT Awards.
In 2002, their rising renown came to a screeching stop. Drummer Neil Primrose dove into a shallow pool while on tour in France, breaking his neck and would have drowned if not for his bandmates. The injury resulted in major spinal damage. Fortunately, despite the severity of the accident, Primrose made a full recovery.

"After Neil's accident it came close to the end of Travis," said Fran Healy, "this band would no longer exist without one of the four members—but we were given another chance." This second chance came in the form of "12 Memories". After such a difficult period, Healy called the album as a whole being about him as he worked through his own depression, and the twelve reasons for reaching the depressed state. "Fran Healy's voice and lyrics are mesmerizing and beautiful", said Elton John. But it wasn't until the release of album five, "The Boy with No Name" (2007), that the past was really behind the band. Healy descibed the album making process as "like coming out of the forest". From then on, they proceeded with much more positive outlook.

The Hush Sound - "Medicine Man" official music video

Medicine Man
The Hush Sound

The Hush Sound is an indie band featuring bandmates Bob Morris, Mike Leblanc, Darren Wilson, and Greta Salpter. One interesting thing about this quartet is that vocals are provided by every member while performing. From Leblanc on base guitar to Morris with lead vocals, all four bandmembers blend their voices to create the haunting sound they are famous for.
Salpter was in 7th grade and Morris in 10th when the two met. A classical pianist and a die-hard rocker, the two began writing songs together and building up their music. Soon they added Chris Faller (who left the band in 2008) and Darren Wilson from “Until Sundown”. Initially, they called themselves “The Hush” but due to a rising rapper with the same name, they were forced to add “sound”. Their first CD sold 300 CD’s in two nights without a label.
April 2009, Bob Morris announced that they would all be “on a vacation for a while”. Since then, Salpter has been involved in the band “Gold Hotel”, whilst Morris has joined “Stamps”. The last time the band was together was for a one-time reunion performance in Chicago on December 26, 2010.

Lady Antebellum - "Just a Kiss" official music video

"Just a Kiss"
Lady Antebellum

The song was one of the last ones written for their album "Own the Night" and was written along with  country music singer/songwriter, Dallas Davidson. In an interview for a country music blog, Davidson tells about the experience: "I went out on the road with them, and we wrote a couple of things. We recorded one song called 'We Own the Night'. Charles called me as they were about done with the record. He said, 'Man, we want to write again.' So the band came over one morning. We started writing this other song. We were trying to find illary a little uptempo girl song. We wrote this cool thing."

Lady Antebellum is an American country group derived in Nashille, Tennessee. The band consists of trio, Chalres Kelley (lead vocals), Dave Haywood (guitar, piano, mandolin), and Hillary Scott (banckground/lead vocals).  After debuting on Jim Brickman's single "Never Alone", the band went on to receive several awards including four Grammys as well as Top Vocal Group, Song of the Year, and Single of the Year with their hit song "Need You Know" at the 45th ACM awards.

The name, Antebellum, comes from when the bandmembers were photographing large plantation homes in the American South. Antebellum refers to pre-Civil War America. While photogrphing, someone in the group said that there was a great band name in there. Soon afterwards, they adopted the name Lady Antebellum.
